IB ART

Some random pieces from the IB kids.

SELF PORTRAIT WITH TEXT AND IMAGE

The sketchbook assignment was self portrait that included text (ideally a variety of font) and simple drawings that told the viewer a minimum of 14 things about themselves.  I gave them a list of questions that ranged from favorite junk food, most memorable birthday, do they believe in aliens etc. to act as prompts.  The final drawing could be either in black fineliner and/or coloured pencil crayons.

ARTIST QUOTES

I started the students this year with an assignment in their sketchbook.  They were given a sheet of quotes about art by various artists and their assignment was to respond to one of the quotes that resonated with them.  They had to decide whether or not they wanted the quote itself to be front and center - grab the spotlight on their page by using some creative lettering; or did they want to focus more on creating an image (drawing, painting, collage etc.) that was in response to how they understood the quote - but they still had to include the quote.

HOW TO TAKE NOTES IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK

I've been borrowing some ideas from a great book which is available at Amazon both as a book and a video.

I use it to help students organize both visual and written information that I am asking them to put in their sketchbooks.  Here are a few examples of some student sketchbook pages in various grade levels.
